The Costa Brava
If you have never been to the regions of Girona,
then we must start by explaining that the word that best defines
them is diversity. Don't expect to find one landscape, one light,
one vegetation... what you will find is a multitude of changing
landscapes, evolving as you advance in one direction or another.
Were we to wax poetic, we would now tell you about the picturesque coastal towns and fishermen's havens like Cadaqués, the charm and scenery of which captivated the maestro Salvador Dalí himself, or like Calella de Palafrugell, whose winding streets and coves echo the sounds of the "Habaneras" that, beyond the indispensable annual festival, bring back the reminiscences and longings of the sailors who emigrated to Cuba.
If you left your decision to us, we would certainly recommend
that you visit the Cap de Creus Natural Park, whose landscape
suggests what the earth must have been like in its origins, or
the marshes of the Aiguamolls de I'Empordà, the Medes islands
and the coves and inlets of Begur and Palafrugell, and the citadel
of Roses, the Greek and Roman ruins of Empúries or the medieval
villages of Pals and Peratallada, and the Iberian remains of Ullastret,
the old town of Tossa de Mar and the beautiful botanical gardens
of Blanes and Lloret de Mar.. What we're getting at, in a nutshell,
is that at the Costa Brava, you can probably enjoy the biggest
concentration of enchanting sights and experiences In the shortest
possible distance. The Costa Brava's 200 km of coastline are a
mosaic of Mediterranean villages like L'Escala, Palamós and Sant
Feliu de Guíxols, which await you with patient expectation, with
their rooftops washed by the sun and their feet in the sand, draped
in rocky outcroppings and green pines to meet the golden waters
of the Mediterranean. The uniqueness of this moving and sudden
encounter between mountain and sea is what led the journalist
Ferran Agulló to define this coast as the Costa Brava (Wild Coast).
But don't think for a minute that the scenery, the climate, the sun and the light are the sum total of the leisure and entertainment possibilities offered up by this land. We have worked hard to offer you a panoply of activities capable of effacing even the smallest trace of stress or boredom from your spirit. On bike or on foot, by car or even on horseback, through the skies, by the footpaths or along the cove-dotted coastline, the Costa Brava is an unsurpassable setting for your strolls or excursions. If nautical sports or golf are more to your liking, we also offer well-groomed and tended facilities and infrastructures. And if what you seek is more fun and entertainment, you will find beachside resorts like Empuriabrava, L'Estartit, Lloret de Mar, Platja d'Aro, Roses, Sant Antoni de Calonge, etc. where you can slake your heart's thirst until the sunset of your dreams.
However, there is one thing you should never pass up: the bounty of our restaurants, the so-called mar i muntanya cuisine, a sublime combination of the fruits of the sea with the meats and vegetables of the mountains and plains. Specialities like the suquet de peix (fish stew), cuttlefish and peas, chicken with crayfish, meatballs with prawns, or rice casserole will fill your album of mementoes, pictures which will come fondly back to mind when reminiscing about your holidays.
