AlmerÃa Gastronomy
An oustanding ingredient in the cuisine of this area is the wonderfully fresh fish. In Garrucha, squid and red mullet are served grilled, while in other towns they form part of the fish chowders which are a true speciality of the region: "Sopa de Almería" in Almería city, "Caldo colorado" in Carboneras and Mójacar and "Caldo de pescado" around the lower reaches of the Almanzora. Another way to enjoy fish is provided by the famous "moragas" so traditional to Mójacar.
Almería is one of the most adequate areas of Andalucía for appetizers. Almería is outstanding for its grills. A countless number of bars offer the visitors a wide range of appetizers for having with beer or the vigorous wines of the region.
In the city of Almería, the districs of Pescadería, El Alquian and Cabo de Gata are ideal for savouring fresh fish. The priority in the streets of the center of the city is hot appetizers (loin, sausages, stews, potatoes "a lo pobre", migas [fried breadcrumbs],etc.)
The villages of Laujar, Ohanes, Fondón,
Alboloduy and Berja have small productions of high quality wine.
