Madrigal de las Altas Torres information
This town of noble history was the birthplace
of Queen Isabel the Catholic, and the chosen residence of the
Court.
It owes its name to the hundreds of bastions that marked the old
wall, of which only twenty-three still remain. It is indispensable
to visit the Palace of Juan II, converted into the monastery of
Nuestra Señora de Gracia. In it we can access several rooms,
such as the Court Hall, and the chamber where Queen Isabel the
Catholic was born. Also noteworthy are the church of San Nicolás
de Bari, with the highest tower in the whole province at 75 metres,
and the church of Santa María del Castillo, as well as the Royal
Hospital, from the 15th century, which nowadays houses a museum
of Mexican crafts.
