Alicante Moors and Christians
The flags and hangings decorate the balconies and the fabrics.
Weapons, costumes and decorations are taken out, after been kept
for one year since the last celebration of Moors and Christians,
fiestas.
This celebration takes place under an explosion of colour and
fireworks ambience.
The Moors and Christians fiesta celebrated in Alcoy is dated from
the 13th century, when the town, that thirty years before had
be reconquered for the Kingdom of Valencia by King don Jaime,
was attacked by the Moslems. Thanks to the participation of Saint
George, what would have been a defeat became a victory for the
Christians. Dates: 22nd -24th April.
